Modern research shows that drinking some of the best reds can have major health benefits – now that’s certainly one to tell the customers when they ponder whether to order an alcoholic beverage with their meal!
That’s right – red wine has many cardiovascular health benefits, which can be attributed to antioxidants present in the skin and seeds of red grapes.
Researchers at Yale New-Haven Hospital have studied this old wive’s tale and their findings show that there are actually three ways in which red wine can help to prevent the risk of coronary heart disease, if enjoyed in moderation. They explain that a single glass of red wine a day helps by:
- reducing production of low density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol – also known as ‘bad’ cholesterol;
- boosting high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the good cholesterol);
- reducing blood clotting. (Yale New Haven Hospital: A Glass of Red Wine a Day)
It’s pretty mind blowing hey? But it’s definitely talk for the bar or an interesting by-read in your wine list cover that’ll be sure to ignite some passion amongst your punters!
Let’s raise a glass to modern day research and its findings! Cheers!
